Get Well Soon Emorej: Electronica Manila organizes a support gig for Emorej (aka Jerome Llama)

Emorej (Jerome Llama) is a mild-mannered businessman by day but by night, he transforms into, quite possibly, the most prolific electronic music producer in Manila. Last month, Emorej had a cardiac arrest and is now in a coma. “He is still in a coma and slow in coming out of it, and music is our best bet since electronica is more or less his love and obsession,” Elsbeth Llama, sister of Emorej, says.

Silverfilter, head of Electronica Manila (EM), says “Let's all continue to pray for his quick recovery. Emorej is an active member in Electronica Manila, online and offline. He's always in EM events”.

“Please pray for his recovery -- that he be cured of pneumonia, awaken from his coma, and resume his joyful music-making,” Lionel Valdellon, EM member and founder of QED Records Netlabel, adds.

Since 2001, he's used a program called ACID PRO to create music with samples and virtual instruments, amassing a stockpile of tracks and albums that have been enjoyed by listeners worldwide. He is the first artist to represent the Philippines on Jamendo, a music website based in Luxenbourg. He also won in the 1st Philippine Digital Music Awards (Phil Digi Awards 2009) for Best House/Electronic Music Category.

Join Electronica Manila on June 22, 2011, 8PM at Capone’s (A Venue, Makati Ave, Makati City). Silverfilter, Flavours N’ Caffeine, Pupiliris, Migi de Belen (Nights of Rizal), F-Zero and Blend:er will perform to show support.

QED RECORDS is a netlabel originally based in the Philippines, but now recently relocated to Hayward, California. It is the brainchild of Acid42 a.k.a. Lionel Valdellon. Migi de Belen (Nights of Rizal) is a singer-songwriter and producer who is involved in a number of bands and collaborations. F-Zero

F-Zero regularly plays drum & bass DJ sets in venues across Metro Manila, mainly in Makati & The Fort. He has released a number of tracks and EPs under QED Records (a Philippine electronica net label owned and operated by Lionel Valdellion aka Acid42). He has also released material via NXT Phage, an online Drum & Bass movement based in the Philippines. In 2010, he was drafted by US-based dance music label, Ultraphonix Recordings. One of his tracks, "Ultra Magnus", was hailed editor’s pick for the last quarter of 2010 at djdownload.com. Flavours N’ Caffeine

The concept Flavours and Caffeine was formed early November of 2006, with members Tina Roxas (Vocals) and Franco Madrid (Synths programming), and Paolo Pacheco from AMPON (turntables, effects) who just joined them in March 2008. They all started out as music producers/composers in the indie music domain. Boy Ramos (The Thought/ Watari’s Machine) and Rem Vocalan (Dayuhan) recently joined the group for FNC’s live set up. Blend:er is Cris Garcimo - electronic musician/sound designer based in the Philippines. He creates sounds and music using vintage synths, computers, children's toys, field recordings and found sounds. He was featured in S.A.B.A.W. Anthology CD (2006) – the first anthology of sound art, electronic, and experimental music in the Philippines. EXperimentation In Sound art Tradition (E.X.I.S.T.) and Espasyo Siningdikato creatiVEnue present ReSound; featuring MNTXX, Ugong and Distinguished Over-rated Radical Kids. ReSound is an underground platform for experimental, electronic, sound art, avant-garde, improvisation, noise, obscure, or in-between adventures in music.

Participating Artists:

MNTXX (pronounced "mo-no-tax") is the duo of college mates and alter egos, Momo and Takz. When Momo met Gee-Bee and Takz met Kay-Ess, they all went on a quadruple date with Andy Warhol, scored some A to Z's with Sid Vicious and jammed with Malcom McLaren till the cows got lost on their ways home.

Erick Calilan is a Cavite-based sound artist, a multi-instrumentalist and an interdisciplinary artist working with D.I.Y. (Do-It-Yourself) technology related to sounds. Often performs under the name UGONG, a sound art outfit utilizing home-made circuit-bent sound devices created from toy keyboards, walkie-talkie and other low voltage electronic devices, he has collaborated with numbers of sound artists, media-art practitioner, musicians and performance artists in the Philippines. He spearheads the sound art collective, Experimentation in Sound Art Tradition (E.X.I.S.T.), and recently curated the festival called Active | De-Active: An Inventive Music Festival 2010, an international music festival focused on improvised music, which toured three Philippine cities – Cavite, Manila and Davao.

DISTINGUISHED OVER-RATED RADICAL KIDS is a solo project by Eric Diolola, for this edition of ReSound he will be collaborating with a local Hip-hop artist.

Passage: Tad Ermitaño's first solo exhibit

"End Frame Video Art Project 3: Present," a Philippine video art festival, commences this month as the third edition and new format of the video art festival which took place in 2006 and 2007. Presented by Visual Pond, the theme "Present" refers to the current project’s focus on selected Philippine contemporary artists’ practices in video art. Throughout the festival, each artist stages a show presenting new video work in various venues from January 2011 to January 2012.

The festival proudly launches with "Passage," a solo exhibition by Tad Ermitaño, opening on January 15 at Pablo Gallery, Fort Bonifacio. A site-specific work responsive to the two rooms of Pablo and the stairs between them, "Passage" utilizes multiple projections and video mapping technology in a crossover of fairy tales and science fiction. Ermitaño, who has studied philosophy, biology and filmmaking, has participated in several local and international group exhibitions and film festivals, including the 2002 videoart.mov, the 2004 Hong Kong International Film Festival, the 2006 Ogaki Biennale, the 2007 Dime a Dozen at Lopez Museum, the 2008 Inter-society of Electronic Arts juried exhibition and recently, the Hear to Ear exhibition of Fete dela Wsk. "Passage" marks the first solo exhibition of this media artist, running until 29 January 2011 with a closing talk by the artist at 5:30 pm.
